Johnson City Play Reading Collective (est. July, 2023)
The Johnson City Play Reading Collective (JCPRC) brings bold, intelligent, funny, and thought-provoking theatre to the Tri-Cities. We believe theatre should do more than entertain—in addition it is our belief that it should challenge perspectives, spark conversations, and bring people together.
Now in our fourth season, we offer audiences an opportunity to experience compelling plays that might not otherwise find their way onto local stages. Our focus is on powerful storytelling, talented local artists, and the magic that happens when an audience and performers share a story in an intimate setting.
What Is a Play Reading?
Think of it as theatre stripped down to its essentials: great writing, talented actors, and your imagination.
Unlike a traditional stage production, a play reading features actors performing with scripts in hand, using minimal sets, costumes, and props. Without elaborate staging, the playwright's words and the actors' performances take center stage.
Our readings are rehearsed and directed, bringing characters and stories vividly to life. You'll experience the humor, drama, emotion, and surprises of live theatre—just in a more intimate, informal setting.
Whether you're a lifelong theatre lover or attending your very first play, you'll find our readings welcoming, engaging, and often delightfully unexpected.
Why Your $10 Matters
We are committed to keeping quality theatre affordable and accessible. Admission is just $10, and those dollars help pay for the performance rights required to present these plays.
In fact, ticket revenue doesn't even cover the full cost of those rights, much less our other production expenses. JCPRC is a labor of love, made possible by the generosity and dedication of local actors, directors, volunteers, and supporters who believe in what we're creating.
